Grand Canyon (5th November)

On the way out of Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon we stopped at the Hoover Dam. We have seen it off so many movies and how its talked up that Adrian was a bit disapointed. He thought it would be bigger in real life! We have seen a few dams ourselves around NZ.

A place called Santa Claus in Arizona had this place called Santa Land once apon a time it now looks very abandoned. The story behind it is really interesting which you can read here. There was an old guy walking his dog around here and he was telling us the old days when he was brought here and rode on the train (you can even see the lil pink carts). How things have changed and that nostalgic era. We crossed Route 66 which had all the old cool diners and hotels on.

Sunset was pretty, my camera does not capture them to my frustration kinda blurring out the beautiful sun to light.

We stopped at this lil settlement before the Grand Canyon. We had some yummy but rather large Mexican food for dinner as well as yummy Sangria. That night we huddled in our warm Motel room at the Canyon Plaza Resort with the lights off watching ‘The Hedgehog’ the film version of ‘The Elegance of the Hedgehog’. It was pretty good but even still I was totally selling the book to Adrian after. I really enjoyed the book a lot as there is more to it and you often want more of it. For some reason this simple moment made a lasting memory. Just total simple happiness. Having a lovely dinner, being warm inside with the snow outside and watching a movie together. We were on the go for so much of our trip that it was nice to slow it down now and then and totally be in the moment. But we totally were not expecting snow around the Grand Canyon area, you always see it red and dusty so it was a surprise but it made it beautiful in its own way all the same.

We saw lots of wonderful wild life like a massive Elk with impressive antlers (hopefully that's the right word for them! They are so big!) After this it was on to Monument Valley for the night.
