I have just returned from my holiday in Zambia. I could probably waffle on for hours about what I saw/did and my feelings for the place etc. That would take far too long and would, I'm sure, be far too boring for anyone reading it. Instead I'm going to list all the animals I saw [heard] in a big list (these were all in the wild rather than zoos though many were seen on a reserve.)
Mammals:
Hippos (thousands of 'em)
Elephants
Wart hogs
Zebras
Giraffes
[Hyenas]
[Lions]
Impala
Cudu
Buffalo
Wilderbeast
Bush Buck
Reed Buck
Water buck
other deer/antelope that I can't remember the name of now
White Rhino!!! (I saw 80% of the White rhino population of Zambia - sadly this was 4 animals)
Baboon
Monkeys of various flavours
Reptiles:
Crocodiles
Monitor Lizzard
Geckos
[Spitting Cobras]
Fish:
Guppies
Chessa
Tiger (though only for the very briefest of moments)
Birds:
So many I couldn't possibly identify them all but the more notable include
Kingfisher
Ostrich
Fish Eagle
Various other eagles
Insects, arachnids, et al:
Notables include,
Guniea Fowl Ant
Seroi (or Zambian Red Ant) - got bitten by one of these bad boys
Tick (only notable as one bit me in the backside :-|)
Bees
A mahoosive spider which we think could be a rain spider but maybe not
Wall spiders (this is what the locals call 'em)
I've probably missed a whole load here as well ... memory is not so good these days.
Also got to see the Victoria Falls. Words cannot do justice to how amazing it is. It rightfully deserves its place on the 7 wonders of the natural world list. If you get a chance in your life you must go. Other than that, it was good to see how my sister now lives.
