Happy Guy Fawkes Day!
Obama made history. Watching him win last night, I just felt a vague sort of joy; but early this morning on the bus I looked out the window, and my eyes fell on a lone Obama-Biden lawn sign. The image of that silent, victorious symbol in the pale silver light drove it all home for me. I couldn't stop thinking about Langston Hughes and Walt Whitman and Frederick Douglass, about Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream which is no longer a dream, but a reality. There is still work to be done, but man...I am so grateful to the generations of Americans who fought to give us this moment. Obama is gonna be an amazing president.
