Christmas Aftermath

Well, Christmas is over with and I'm back at home unwinding before I go to bed.  This year was odd though.  All month long, and even the day of, it just really didn't feel like Christmas to me.  I always try to avoid 'getting into the spirit' until the day of, simply because I get burnt out on it really easy, but I never really felt the need for it.  However, despite this (or perhaps because of it), I think this was one of the most enjoyable Christmases I've had in... ever.  Usually I don't like spending a lot of time with my family, but oddly enough it was pleasant the whole time.  I don't think I really had a moment where I didn't want to be there.

Presents were a bit sparse (which I expected), but I got things that I actually wanted and needed, which I feel is more important.  I'd rather get a few quality gifts than a bunch of ones just to fill the hole.  I got a rice cooker, a few new shirts (that I actually like!  holy shit that never happens!), a bathrobe and some new slippers, and several other small things.  My biggest gift was a nice hard shell guitar case, which I was really excited to get.  I was also glad to see the gifts I got for my family were well received.  Of course I knew they'd like whatever I got them, but just like with myself, I prefer to give gifts that actually fit someone's wants/needs.

It kind of sucked that I had to work today, but over all it was tolerable.  It was only a four hour shift, it fit in well with my drive home, and I had just enough free time to finish my book.  I was surprised that it was actually busy though.  Seriously, don't people have something better to do than come in and work out or swim on the Sunday after Christmas?  And working kept my hours up for the week, so I didn't lose much time for being off for the holiday.  Besides, New Year's weekend will be much better.  I'll have Friday off to give me a three day weekend, and I'm hoping I can get a few friends to come over and hang out.

Anyway, everything has passed easily enough, and I'm thankful for it.  Now as long as we don't get any more snow to clog up the roads, I'll stay happy.  And as long as I can get through the rest of this week without any major headaches.  For now though, I think I'm going to content myself with a piece of chocolate pie before I head to bed.

chirstmas, new years, family
