oh man. what an adrenaline rush. poor house. it was very nice looking from the outside....more on this later. you get to read about the fire after the rest of my amazing day!
so first, i got to first period before the bell rang for once and that made me happy. physics was all w/e. calc was again enjoyable especially considering how i am totally pwning that class. chorus/lit/gym - same ol' same ol'
FF to 9th:
we walk in and kilkelly tells us were only gonna have a half a period b/c he has to leave at 1:45 for some meeting or w/e and so for like 20 minutes we watched some dumb video that i have no clue what it was about cuz i slept=)
so he left, and then im like "im totally going home NOW!" of course, as i was walking in the halls, i realized i had 2 things i was supposed to stay after for but basically said fuck them. im considering doing the SHARE project (cuz i really wanted to get involved in it since last yr) but i dont really know if i want to anymore. and besides, how often to i get to go home early?
so i got home, pwned my calc hw, finished off my cornell application (YES!!!) and headed out west "...sucka. cuz im gonna be a cowboy baby." okay. no. not really. you can all yell at me for that dumb line. sarah basically was begging me to come visit...
so i get to great neck @ 4 and after doing w/e for like 20 minutes, sarah and decide to go mini-golfing. that was a waste of money. hole-in-one'd the first cuz im amazing but by the time we reached the 5th hole on the first of 2 18-whole courses, we really didnt give a crap at all and basically stopped playing and just did w/e=) there was a pseudo-gazebo that we hung out in for a bit too. we never did the 2nd course or really finished the first. so we get back to her house around 730 (dont ask why it took us so long when we werent playing). we nibbled cuz she was breaking fast and i was hungry. but as dull and poor as those details are (i dont like to gossip really), it was an amazing night. shes so great. and bootiful. <3
so im still hungry so i hit up Mickey-Ds and get the chicken-select combo cuz its not that bad and it doesnt involve mixing dairy & meat. i get home and eat it while flipping between 2 amazing movies - Liar Liar & Home Alone 2. but i never will know how either ends...
cuz at around 1020 or so...the pager goes off....
dispatcher: "signal 13...off of caledonia" (it is not up to me to give the address out). so my brother and i semi-nonchalantly head out expecting nothing...a minute later as were turning onto dix highway, the pagers go off again for a "resounding" of the alarm (which i found to be odd right off the bat). then over the scanner we hear that the dispatcher received a call on it, then the auto-fire/smoke alarm, and now the burglar alarm is going off and "pd is advising it may be work". instantly my adrenaline boosted. we get to the station, throw our shit on and roll an engine, the truck/aerial unit, and an ambulance. i was on the engine.
now...we're the third-due fire apparatus which means were getting ready to truck operations (venting/searching) if there is indeed fire b/c it is not yet confirmed. as we pull up on scene and get ready to grab the "truck" tools, the chief orders us to hit the hydrant & pull a 2nd handline (hose). which confuses the shit out of us b/c the hydrant should already have been hit at this point by the first...or atleast 2nd due.
long-story made not as long: it was a very small electrical fire but it was in the walls trying to expand. if we came 5-10 minutes later, this house would have been freakin LIT! so they get the main fire out but theres a shit load of smoke. so were doing overhaul to check for extension, which we find. this is where the fun kinda stops...
- having to move personal objects like photos in hopes they arent ruined, realizing that with the extensive smoke, that so much of the home is a loss.
- having to hurl a couple-of-hundred pounds couch out the window (first floor mind you)
- extensive, tiring overhaul
- almost getting my head/nose clobbered/broken by falling sheetrock (thank g-d for my helmet)
- almost throwing up afterwards - half due to heat-exhaustion, half due to inhaling a tiny bit of smoke
- getting back to the station covered in sheetrock & sweat
...coulda done without all that
but...it was all freaking worth it. the adrenaline rush is amazing. getting ready to help preserve 2 of the 3 main inalienable rights - life & property - amazing.
coming home to still have to finish hw b/c you were to busy fighting fires and being with your amazing girlfriend (who i probably wont see again for over week (or 2):-( ) - all still worth it
"Today-dayayay....Iiiiiii...consider myself-elf-elf...the luckiest man-an-an...on the face of the earth."
ok. you can yell at me for that one too. but im in a good place.=)
