Fun Evening Chaos

Who knew firing blowtorches at cuts in bottles to make glasses could be so much fun.

So, way back in Köln a committee was called for organizing the Fun Evening in Bern. Said committee consisted of Miho, Celle, and I.

For some reason we rarely had a time where all 3 of us were together. Either two of us would meet up or one would work independently. It took a while for ideas - what was initially a Secret Santa become more of a letter-writing appreciation deal. The only thing confirmed was racklettes (melted cheese on veges).

I thought we were going to pick names out of a hat, and made preparations for such, but suddenly during Travel Day to Bern Miho decided that we should create a chain ourselves of who write for whom, to have deeper connections. I didn't like the chain idea; it seemed a bit manipulative of people's emotions (as though they were for our entertainment) and often the biggest impact comes from someone whom you don't expect to hear from.

Neither of us could agree, so when we met up with Celle (who had left for Bern earlier), we asked her. She suggested asking others to provide 5 names and we make the chains out of those names. Sounded like a good idea. Practically - didn't work as well.

Taking the names took some effort, but the biggest hassle was making the chains. We kept delaying the name announcements because there were flaws in the naming system (three people without writers. two people not writing. huh?) and people were getting antsy. Even on the day itself there were difficulties.

Everyone of us were talking to different people in charge and we all kept getting different answers. Long table - no, on floor - stuff on wall - maybe? GAH. I kept feeling vetoed out at times, and sometimes it was frustrating when your own hard work wasn't acknowledged at least.

The dinner happened and halfway through Bob tells me that we might not have time for the appreciation thing. AGH. All that planning. I talk with Celle and Miho about it and they're like "we'll see". I couldn't really enjoy myself because I was too on edge about the whole evening, not sure if it'll work out.

The appreciation thing worked out though, thankfully. Rob did a funny impression of me talking about my novel (which bombed). He even remembered my DivaBat thing, awh. Everyone was really funny and hilarious and sweet, and we managed to get everyone in. Finally I could breathe.

It was hard when no one is on the same page, everypne has different ideas about things, no one is ever together, people get ignored, and we keep vetoing each other out. But that's life for you.

One more week, oh goodness.
