Caroline Forbes: Woman Love Fest, Day 1

Sep 09, 2011 19:56

Ok, now that I'm more or less finished with being stunned by all the womenlovefest awesomeness and I've regained the ability to express myself coherently, I shall proceed to meta writing ;). I've spent the last three days on adrenaline rush I'm recovering from right now, so I'm afraid my meta is more like a stream of consciousness rather than a proper essay. ( Read more... )

This was a great read! :D I loved how you went on how freaking good they're writing her because that's so spot-on. I wasn't too fond of Caroline either in the beginning but did she grow on me. Right now if it wasn't for Bonnie she'd be my favorite girl among that bunch, and you're so right on how they made the supposed stock character more interesting than everyone else. And when she confronted Damon after she got turned... that was such a win moment. And yeah, they should have addressed the Andy issue more >__>

It was one of the few things I really missed in season two :(. In season one they were showing all those horrible things (mind control, God...), but at the same time they were clearly stating that the characters were doing the wrong things! It was really smart, especially since TVD is a teen show. They gave me a major mindfuck with Damon, because he was so attractive, and interesting, and moving, but at the same time I couldn't deny just how WRONG he was. As much as I love writing about him, I need to remember that; relationships with Damon tend to end badly for the people who hook up with him. See: Caroline ( ... )

To be honest, I wish there was more about Caroline's relationship with Damon in season two. After she confronted him, I hoped we'd get to see her dealing with the memories.

YES! I would have loved to see this as well. And I actually think it was important because we see Caroline and Damon interact quite casually for the rest of the season (Damon is in her bedroom at one point early in the season??). But on some level, Caroline MUST be thinking of Damon as the person who sexually and emotionally abused her and then erased her memories because how could she not. Unfortunately a lot of that was really glossed over, and then even worse so where Andie was concerned. :|

Great meta :D
I wasn't paying attention to how is she written, and you spot it perfectly. I can subscribe to the first paragraph (but I think it took a bit longer in my case), I went from not liking her at all (for being shallow and too stereotypical) to her became one of my favourites (how she changed!).

I honestly don't know when I started loving Caroline, because when I'm re-watching the show, I like everything much more than I did when I was watching it in a first place.

I'm glad you like the meta :D. I was a bit afraid to post it, because of what I wrote about Damon. There is a fine line here between writing things about plot devices and saying nice things about sexual abuse, and one stupid mistake (a sentence badly structured or a word I didn't know had a double meaning) would be enough to cross that line. So, you know. Uffffffffffffff.

Mój mózg wygląda w tej chwili jak gąbka, więc tylko daję znać, że przeczytałam i mi się podobało, bo nie jestem w stanie napisać nic konstruktywnego.

Spot-on! Though I think they should have put more emphasis on her dealing with the abuse she received from Damon. I'm not saying retaliation, just some more screentime? Because what they did is just recognize that said abuse happened, but the show didn't really deal with it (in season 2, because in season 1 it was addressed). So what they did was decent, but it was in no way satisfactory (to me at least).

I think Caroline just flipped the switch, because there are so many things she needs to focus on in order to survive that if she added Damon issues, her head would explode. So it's not like I'm not buying her reaction, it could be explained more or less logically. I just wish the writers chose a bit different path for her, because when it comes to The Vampire Diaries, I totally belive that tv teaches people some sort of a lesson, and our popular culture could use this particular lesson.
