FLAWLESS MORALLY DUBIOUS PRINCESS.

So instead can we talk about an 18yo girl who manages to outwit an Original vampire and tie her interests with his so that she's protected? She takes the leverage she has, and she makes the most of it.

She is utterly brilliant at this, isn't she? She's a human teenager surrounded by the supernatural, who manages to turn the tables on more powerful creatures and get things done. And yes - so many of her plans are reckless because she doesn't care (or doesn't think she cares) that they'll be close brushes with death - as long as it achieves her goal.

Elena knows that life doesn't stop just because something bad happens to you. She knows it, and at times it makes her force herself to get her shit together - but sometimes, it also gives her something to hold on to. No matter how terrible things are, there will always be a spark of light, Bonnie Bennett floating feathers and grinning like an idiot, because feathers floating around Elena's head are just so beautiful.

It's such a visually gorgeous moment -- the lighting, the feathers, the smiles. I love that Elena makes the conscious choice to try and move on, because she feels it's unsustainable, that she can't hold on forever. From pilot, I will no longer be the sad little girl who lost her parents, to early season 3: Then we'll let him [Stefan] go. And so many Bonnie feelings in this episode D:

#8 is one of my favourite moments on the show. John & Elena's relationship is just fascinating. I love Elena when she let's herself go and say exactly what she's thinking, no holds barred -- it just feels so real.

RE: #6 [insert hot DE GIF here] (I'm too burnt out on tumblr right now to go find one)

She gets out of bed every day, because if she doesn't, people will pity her and think her weak. She gets out of bed every day, because no one will do it for her. She gets out of bed because she's terrified that if one day she lets herself not to, she'll never get out of bed again.

♥♥♥♥♥ It's such a careful balancing act. Her push past her fear being driven by her fear -- and it's no longer she's reckless.

RE: #5 DDDDD:

This scene never meant that Elena didn't truly love Stefan, or that she didn't love him enough. It didn't say anything about her relationship with Stefan at all, neither good nor bad. It simply meant that Elena Gilbert, even in one of her lowest moments, also loved herself.

#incoherent noises YES.

(This reply has degenerated hasn't it)

Hm... weirdly, I don't remember that scene from 2.10 at all. It's been so long since I watched s2. But this:

She quickly learns that her life is a bargaining chip, and she uses it to win. Until 3x22, she is a human surrounded by supernatural forces, ridiculously weak and powerless, and the only control she has is to choose her own death.

So much. Elena is brilliant at this, being able to push these bargains, because she's just that reckless that others absolutely have to take her threats about her life or death seriously. And it kills me how quickly she picked up on using it as a tool. My bb.

SHE IS JUST SO WONDERFUL, ISN'T SHE???

And yes - so many of her plans are reckless because she doesn't care (or doesn't think she cares) that they'll be close brushes with death - as long as it achieves her goal.

YES. Because she feels she lives on borrowed time anyway. Her life was just a debt she had to repay. Everyone else deserves to live, but she had her chance, and now her life is worth only as much as the lives it can save.

I love Elena when she let's herself go and say exactly what she's thinking, no holds barred -- it just feels so real.

John and Damon are the only people Elena allows herself to be angry with. It's all sorts of fascinating *__*

That scene from 2x10 is one of my favorite D/E visuals! Which is probably why it got stuck in my head so much.
