So, I should probably comment on your sociopath!Elena, but what strikes me about this fic is the insight into Damon, how nearly every bit of him is constructed and "fake" -- and the new-found clarity with which Elena can see that about him. Which... isn't so different from regular Elena/Damon, because she's always been able to see past his persona. Only, now, she has the means to use that against him. That's pretty much what I hope to see from canon.

And for all that is right and just in the world, I hope she demolishes him.

You're right, she's always been able to see him for who he is. Now I'm wondering what the difference is? It's not only her new found malice; she also understands even better right now. "I love you less now that I know you more."

Indeed, I so hope she shakes him up.

ETA: Now it came to me. I guess the difference is that now she not only sees past his persona, but also recognizes how fucking hard he has to try to keep up the persona sometimes.

You and your accidental ficlet made me feel sad and inexplicably happy at the same time.

Elena is surprised that she hasn't noticed this before, the false lines of his smirk and something haunted in the eyes that he's struggling to keep empty.

(She isn't supposed to wipe a tear off his cheek, but she forgets.)
