AKA: She straddled him on a bed while pointing a phallic object at him, and then they plotted a murder together. What does your ship do?
A+.

She's angry because he didn't warn her how it would feel, because he wasn't there with her, because he didn't magically make the problem disappear... Take your pick.
Yessssssssss. Because Damon's the guy who fixes things. One of my favourite moments, tbh.

And his reaction? He's impressed. Not surprised (because he expects just about anything from her at this point), not scandalized (lol), not uncomfortable (a girl he's been pining for for months just pinned him to a bed, and it doesn't matter).
IT COULD BE NO OTHER WAY

Damon never told Elena: “I will love and accept you unconditionally”. Elena doesn't know that this is how he feels about her; she might suspect it, but she doesn't know. She acts the way she does because her self-worth and identity are not contingent upon Damon's opinion of her. Her actions are not motivated by fear he'd reject her: not because she knows he won't do it, but because his rejection wouldn't affect her identity.
Y E S. Standing ovation. Though, I think Elena DOES ~know, and sometimes she unconsciously uses that ~knowledge, because she can. Because he's the one who doesn't leave.

I don't think Damon only wants Elena when she's at her worst, I don't think he wants her to be like him. He just wants her, period.
Lord, I'm so tired of fandom's tomfoolery about this, i.e. this conception of Damon as some Satanic demon with a nefarious plot to ~transform Elena into his Princess of Darkness. Can we just. And it seems to be based on the idea that he's still trying to pursue her? When canonically he's been trying to move on with his life and is only so wrapped up in her now because he's a Fixer who needs to Fix things? But of course, we all know that Damon/Elena can only happen as a "transgression" on the part of the good girl, for which she'll later be punished (and then ofc redeemed through Stefan's pure and magnanimous dick). Go home, fandom.

It's very telling that when Damon and Stefan find Elena digging a grave in the woods, Damon's initial reaction is to step back, while Stefan's is to step in and try to take the shovel out of Elena's hands.
Oooooh, I totally missed this. Totally mirrors Stefan barging in after Alaric's death and devaluing Elena's coping mechanism of clearing out Ric's locker. Because obviously there is no better way of dealing than to fall soggily into Stefan's arms.

Damon is not “letting” Elena make this decision, because it's not his place to “let” her do anything. She's not looking for his permission to go.
T H A N K Y O U. In motherfucking one. (Go home, fandom.)

This is a good post.

Because Damon's the guy who fixes things. One of my favourite moments, tbh.

It made me stop for a second when I was watching, because, while it made perfect sense she'd accuse him of things, I wasn't sure why she's accusing him in this particular moment. But then it all made sense <33333. Btw, it's amazing how Elena keeps refusing to be saved, and yet she constantly expects Damon to fix things for her. She expects him to help her even though she flat out refused his help.

I've been thinking why I love it so much when normally this pile of unrealistic expectations would disturb the hell out of me. And I decided this is because of Damon's reaction. Elena's accusations don't bother him, they don't affect him. He can distinguish between Elena actually having beef with him and Elena simply crying out loud because she's in pain. He isn't hurt by her comments because he can read them for exactly what they are.

Though, I think Elena DOES ~know, and sometimes she unconsciously uses that ~knowledge, because she can. Because he's the one who doesn't leave.

Hmm, good point. But there's a difference between Elena consciously using Damon's devotion when she's feeling well and Elena letting Damon see her when she's in a very vulnerable place. Elena knows that she's the worst, and when she's in a lower place, she assumes everyone knows it too. I don't think she'd be able to take Damon for granted in situations like that if her identity was contingent upon his viewpoint.

But of course, we all know that Damon/Elena can only happen as a "transgression" on the part of the good girl, for which she'll later be punished (and then ofc redeemed through Stefan's pure and magnanimous dick).

Bless you and your shade. You just gave me my Day Five topic XD.
