Exactly. This is my favorite thing about her: Elena doesn't want to be saved, refuses to be just an object, she wants to be the subject of her own story. She wants agency.
I think you have to be fairly masochistic to be a D/E fan because of all these big romantic tropes that never work out. I mean society almost conditions you to expect that because Damon watched her while Stefan was gone he would get the girl, or because Damon loves her and changed he would get the girl. All these moments that never happen can be very painful on a a shippers heart. But! Then we get the hottest make out scene on television so I suppose we recover. Character development is better anyway.
And she is willing to play those power games with Damon and the sad part is for a 140 something year old vampire? Damon loses most if not all of the time.
Lol, spot-on! Don't you just love how fandom keeps missing that Damon is a submissive type? He just doesn't obey anyone, he obeys women who made an impression on him.
Makes me want to go and watch all the episodes again.
