I don't love you, but I always will - a Damon/Elena shipper manifesto (part 2)

Here goes part two! Part three will probably take me a good while to write. tvdbloodstream has a Top Ten challenge, and the ship part ends on Thursday, so it appears that first I have to work on something with actual deadline. But for now, part two is alive and kicking. Without further ado:

I don't love you, but I always will - a Damon/Elena shipper manifesto ( Read more... )

note to self: less talk, meta, ostateczne upodlenie, fictional vampires ruin my life, straszna straszna miazga, yes i'm always like that, elena gilbert is amazing, damon omg damon, fandom: the vampire diaries, i'm twelve just like my ship, how unfortunate, too many emotions, i hate everybody

Ugh, I will steal this shawl icon as soon as you stop using it.

Damon is the substitute. He's not supposed to be there. He is literally standing in Stefan's place.

YES. I really, really want the fic in which he just curses this whole thing, because he hates to be a substitute, and hates to step in, and hates the irony of what's happening. Seriously, if I were him, I would start throwing shot glasses into a fireplace.

The writers are so unapologetically subversive and postmodern with D/E (i.e. it's a trollfest) and people DO NOT GET THAT THIS IS THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS STORY. Elena rejecting Damon's love confession at a fairytale ball. Damon becoming a somewhat better person only to have Elena (still) reject him anyway. THIS IS WHY THEY WORK. You can't just throw honest, brave storytelling away for a romantic ideal that does not exist.

I approve of your life choices.

Damon/Elena is a ship for people who hate both themselves and the world.

Thank you, Doctor Freud.

D/E can be dark and gloomy too, obviously, but the comedy in their narrative is actually CANON. Like. HE PUSHED HER INTO A LAKE. It's the complete opposite of epic melodrama. And it's not like [insert couple here] giggling with each other and being oh so cute. When it comes to D/E comedy, we are supposed to laugh AT them. It is fucking awesome.

YES. Because the lake scene? It's absurd. It's absurd, ridiculous and completely silly. You know what else it is? It is 100% in character for both of them...

lol, don't make me like that cheesy episode.

YOU KNOW YOU LOVE IT. I mean, come on. Elena gets drunk and makes fun of Damon. And then she plays the white knight and saves the princess. In between, Bree makes dirty jokes. What's not to love?
