So, I'm watching Moulin Rouge!. Again. I haven't seen it for ages and I sort of expected not to like it so much now (because that's what happens when you re-watch a movie you loved when you were 14, right?). Well...
Expect no analysis. I had a hell of a day and now I'm just enjoying.
― OMG THE AESTHETICS! I usually don't like kitsch. I really don't. Except here I adore it with all my heart.
― Ewan McGregor, be more adorable, I dare you. No, seriously.
― When I was fourteen, I didn't fully appreciate the wonderfulness of the absurd of the Unconscious Argentinian. I do now.
― I'm pretty sure that the last time I was drinking absinthe, it didn't involve Kylie Minoque stepping out of the bottle and singing The hills are alive with the sound of music right in front of my face.
― They have a HUGE ELEPHANT. I mean... ELEPHANT. Also, there are some guys climbing onto it. Writers, how much of Green Fairy did you have?
― Your Song. That is, dancing on the roofs of Paris while surrounded by fake fog and the rain of stars, and there is also a miniature Eiffel Tower and Harold Zidler dressed as moon. And I'm nearly crying. Seriously, HOW?
― Duke's eyes are actually sparkling.
― The narrator. The typewriter. The quick camera movement. The lights. THE COLORS! Oh my God, I usually don't like films like that, how come this one is so perfect?
― Elephant Love Medley. Yep, I still know most of the lyrics by heart, which is creepy. Christian, smile again and I'll die. Seriously, how are you so young and cute, and adorable, and naive? All those burlesque surroundings, and you stand in the middle of the BLOODY ELEPHANT and your smile is so geniune it breaks my heart.
― Actually, he is the only character that sticks to the "genuine" patterns of behavior; I mean, McGregor's acting is natural, not exaggerated.
― Christian, sometimes songs just don't work :(.
― Come What May!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
― Oh my God, the poor sad puppy :(((((((((((((((((((. His own brilliant brain, his own songs are ruining him. And he will never see the songs don't work.
― El Tango de Roxeanne. Be more hypnotic, I dare you. Let Zidler keep his fairy-tale ending...
― The Show Must Go On. Nicole Kidman is my hero.
― The ways this film deals with storytelling, plotlines and metafiction require many words consisting of more than three syllables. I'm not going to use any of them, because I'm bloody exhausted, but, please, insert the words *here*. Make sure there are many "hence"s, "nevertheless"s and "therefore"s.
― I love it how the entire film is framed like one big performance.
― Just for the record, my heart is broken now. I will never find consolation :((((.
