One of the (very few) things I hate about living in Utah is how long it takes for movies I want to see to get here--if they ever do, indeed, get here.
Take today. I've been wanting to see Black Swan since I first saw the trailer on the FOX movie channel (I keep the TV on a lot for background noise). But while the film opened on Dec. 3, there are no Utah theatres carrying it. Seriously, not even the Salt Lake Film Society.
It's not a big deal because I don't go to a lot of movies, but it's annoying when it happens. For example, I didn't get to see Repo! The Genetic Opera until it was almost pretty much out on DVD, and it hasn't returned to SLC since, as far as I know--this while lots of cities have regular midnight showings. I remember that the equally wonderful Triplets of Belleville (aren't my tastes eclectic?) was here for all of, like, two weeks when I was in college. I ended up going downtown during a freezing February to see it at the Broadway Theatre all on my lonesome. By the way, seeing movies or going to the theatre alone quite frankly sucks. I mean, hell, I'm very much an introvert, and I don't have problems doing a lot of "social" things by myself even if the U.S.' extrovert-privileging society attatches a stigma to doing so, but seeing movies alone makes me really unhappy, so I tend to avoid doing it*.
But wow, can I digress or what?
Anyway, I'm hoping this movie gets here sometime, even just for a few days. Because waiting for things to come out on DVD (especially when most of the movie rental places have closed down in your neighborhood) is annoying.
* Note, however, that I was prepared to see Watchmen by myself. The things I will do for that book and anything related to it are kind of absurd and obsessive, really. (Yes, I own a Rorschach action figure. I REGRET NOTHING!)
