hi all! more updates:
i turned in a philosophy paper. i worked on it all week, it wasn't a big assignment, but it took a lot of thinking--it was like a mind puzzle, an awesome mind puzzle! i love philosophy, it's got me questioning everything.
last week i had three different philosophical discussions outside of class with three entirely different groups of people, it was really fascinating. one was about what is the nature of conciousness, one was about whether love exists, and the other was about like everything: what is existence?
i've become much more religious since i've been here, which i thought was the opposite of was supposed to happen. i mean, don't get me wrong, i'm still not a fan of organized religion, but i mean, yesterday in philosophy class, we proved that god exists. i'm sure later, we'll prove that he doesn't, and then we be all confused, but still, it's pretty amazing to think about.
i went to a concert last night that was pretty interesting. D+ played, than a crazy fool named calvin johnson played and baffled us all with his weirdness, then a guy from D+ played by himself, and then phil elverum of the microphones played. the guy from D+ did some really amazing stuff with a loop machine, and phil elverum was incredible--the lyrics of his songs were short poems that had a lot of really cool ideas and original ways of expressing them.
we haven't had bread in awhile, so we haven't been able to make john maddens. hopefully, that'll change in the future.
the deli here makes excellent hot italian sandwiches.
improv's getting better, company's starting up, renegade theatre and "the graduate" is still really stressful. as for the stairwells, we've picked out songs and started rehearsing some of them: a little bit of james taylor, simon & garfunkel, barenaked ladies, fleetwood mac, the beatles, tegan and sara, dolly parton, and steve miller band, and more to come later.
i haven't gotten any mail in awhile.
there was a standup comedian here who was supposedly really funny, but i left early because we thought the opener was the main guy, and the opener was not very good at all.
we're decorating the hall autumn themed, it's really sweet.
there have been two scary incidents in the past week that have really gotten to me, it's still hard to think about them. without getting into too much detail, one involved one of our neighbors being naked and under the influence of a lot of cocaine and alcohol. the other involved me stopping a guy from trying to take advantage of one of my friends while she was drunk. i guess college is a scary place no matter where you go, and i'm sure it's way better here than it is lots of other places. i'm trying really hard to feel safe again, and i know i will after some time.
i definately don't regret my decision--kenyon is a wonderful place, and it will only get better. it's just sometimes there are bad apples making bad decisions. i learned that at apple picking last week.
yogurt blasted cheerios rock. so do rosemary and olive oil flavored triscuits. so does descartes.
i've been having a scrubs marathon this weekend because it's a four day weekend. i was gonna try to go home, or with matt to isu, but it never happened.
that's all i can think of right now. more updates later
