how does one cite this?

I think this is a question for the professor but his office is packed at this time of the semester and he hasn't answered emails yet.

I've written about 2 pages of my paper and after the introductory paragraph where the thesis is stated, I use a quote from the book I'm discussing that I think best presents the problem. I thought this was the best time to find secondary sources since I now have a solid thesis statement, but one of the sources quotes the same line from the book to present the problem as well. To keep it safe, I'd cite this author. My professor requires us to introduce each citation, and I wonder if I should put it as, "This statement is also seen by Abaci as problematic in following the definition of the sublime." My professor wants us to use endnotes or footnotes, which I've never done before since I've always used parenthetical citations. Does that sentence usually go within the essay or just in the footnotes?
