My Operation
I had my operation on 22nd June 2010.
I am still using two crutches to walk as I developed a post-operative infection which required over a weeks stay in hospital in July 2010 receiving two different types of IV antibiotics (flucloxacillin and benzylpenicillin)
The operation I had was an arthroscopy (a camera in my knee) and a tibial tubercle transfer (TTT). The TTT is "Basically, you know the bump below your knee (tibial tubercle) they move that, by breaking that off your tibia with the patellar tendon attached and move it to a more 'appropriate' place. After they move it, they screw it into place with either one or two screws." yay for WikiAnswers =)
I've been on oral Fluclox since the begining of July now and I still have the infection. My consultant said that he believes that the infection has come from the screws from surgery and the infection will not go away until they take the screws out. He said that he would like to leave them in for 6 months to ensure that the bone is fully healed.... So, 6 months after the Operation will be around 22nd December... JOYOUS! :/
Anyway, I'm going back to see him on Monday so guess I'll know more then :)
I've got my benefit medical on Sunday as well... Basically assessing if I can safely go back to work or not... :/
