Scenes from the St. Petersburg Grand Prix

St. Petersburg, FL

I'm awake!

What a rush and I'm sorry it's over. Doing a Grand Prix laid out over city streets and even part of a runway is one heck of a chore. In addition to the race they held a small air show at the beginning of each race.

There were all kinds of race cars. I'm told this one is a "GT" series. Couldn't prove it by me.

And the occasional Indy car. I found out that contrary to my prior belief, these are not formula race cars. Now I have to try to figure out what a formula car is.

The first rule of racing reads: If it fell off and the car is still running, you didn't need it. But even if you didn't need it, you can't leave it in the track.

The show opened with a precision parachute exhibition courtesy of the United States Army.

Klein Tools and Target both had sponsored aircraft buzzing around. Here they are entering a precision side by side loop.

Here's something you don't see every day. A modern F-16 flying in formation with an 1950's vintage F-86.

And a good time was had by all.

Mrs. Whack, Let's hit the road.
