Over the last couple months you've read
my ranting and raving about Sony's incredibly short sighted attempt at digital rights management. The lesson learned from that debacle is there are companies operating without a clue or care about how their actions affect their customer's security or their computers. Nor do they seem to be overly concerned about obtaining your permission before installing their software on your machine.
It seems the only way to avoid these unwanted calamities is to disable the autorun feature on all your CD/DVD drives. Much has been written on how disable the autorun feature on Windows XP. Alas, very little of it actually worked. That is until
phecda pointed me toward a few solutions.
The one that actually did the job is from Microsoft itself. From their
Power Toys collection. Download the program called TweakUI, install it and run it. Select My Computer, AutoPlay and drives. Uncheck the DVD/CD Drives(s) and click apply.
And the deed is done. No more auto loading of software, good or bad.
Check those drives Mrs. Whack.
