They did it - the generator runs and it runs great!
The fine folks at
Southeast Power Systems in Tampa, FL diagnosed and corrected the original problem in the generator. That was a leak in a fitting on the suction side of the fuel tank. Then they fixed all the problems the generator shop caused by trying to treat the symptom rather then fix the problem. (Why, why, why would no one at the other shop listen to me about the air bubbles in the fuel line?)
The fuel injector pump was so far out of whack they had to pull it off the engine to take it into the shop for calibration. Michael, the technician working on my generator, was able to get the thing well into the factory specification range. We loaded the generator, unloaded it, cycled the air conditioners and heaters on and off and threw everything the truck had at it.
It ran flawlessly all the time we were torturing it. A tip of the hat to Michael and all those in Southeast Power's Tampa shop. Kohler (the people that built the generator) should probably tip their hat as well. They dodged a major shit storm involving lawyers and demands for a complete replacement generator by a matter of a couple days.
As a side note, the folks at Southeast Power Systems will be featured on the
SpeedTV Cable Network on November 19th. They took their boss's Dodge Ram pickup truck and gave it roughly 450 horse power at the wheels. The entire process was documented by SpeedTV cameras. Now that's a pick up truck!
While on an unrelated mission in Barnes and Noble I stumbled across
"The MAD Bathroom Companion: The Mother Load". As a Mad Magazine fan from way back, I was drawn to the book and discovered it is actually three books in one and could be had for only $9.95. Of course I bought it without hesitation.
It looks like Barns and Noble is closing these out. If you're a Mad fan, check your local store or order one on line.
Good night Mrs. Whack, don't forget your reading glasses.
