Somewhere on I-95 above Ft. Peirce, FL - In my drug induced haze last night I forgot to mention Laurel Lichtenberger. She is the press site operations logistics manager for the Kennedy Space Center. This is the nice lady that over sees herding the cats, also known as known as news media. After the bike and I changed places, I let the people I was working with know I had to leave. Then, thinking "this is the Kennedy Space Center, they have to have an emergency room somewhere around here" I went up to the media center and asked Laurel how to get to the base ER.
The base doesn't have a hospital. But she saw to it that I was cared for and transported to the hospital. The entire time telling me I was not being a bother and this is why they have these facilities.
Thanks Laurel. She signed my cast too.
Speaking of casts, I went to see the orthopedic doctor today. Using techniques normally reserved for collecting bad debts owed to loan sharks, my finger was straightened a bit more, rotated roughly 15 degrees, bent over and cast in place. The good news is I can still flip a bird or make peace sign. The bad news is the bent over fingers make the hand almost as useless as a case of the clap. The pain is moderate unless I try to do something I shouldn't do. Then an eight plus reminder on the pain scale sets me back in my place.
Shuttle and work update
Atlantis will not be flying in the next few days. If they have to pull it off the pad, it will probably be a week or more before it flies. In the mean time, we're on our way to the Miami area to act as reception committee for Hurricane Ernesto. Now how to keep this cast dry...
Life's more amusing than we thought.
