and the internet is being finicky, so I can't check my other mail. hope there's nothing important.
i was told an ice flow from a nearby lake has chilled our nice warm April. Warmth is so relative: +5 was so nice a month ago, and now it's quite brisk. ;)
I've finally seen the inside of Kazansky Cathedral (only took three trips!). Peterhof was too cold to see much of, and it was spring cleaning day...
I have learned how to make potatoe or cheese dumplings as well as their griddle cakes--yum!
I read Winnie-the-Pooh, and started on Harry Potter 3, after killing off Solzhenitsin's One Day in the life of Ivan Denisovich--which was a worthwhile read after a thorough explanation in lecture.
The days are getting longer--still dusky (dim) at 10pm.
There are new passport regulations in Russia (in response to America's post-Sept 11 upgrades) so we have to carry them 24-7 as well as registration cards... :)
So, what's great about Russia this week? I haven't told you about the walk-up windows at Mc Donalds! No drive up (not enough drivers) but there are walk-up windows! and 15 rouble hamburgers this week (special)--and this semester the exchange rate has been approx. 30 roubles to the dollar.
I'm gonna miss my coat when I go home. I "see" myself (in shades or shop windows) as I wear it and think: gee, I feel all special and tuff (like the girl in "XXX" or some other mobster's feminine relation) ;)
Good luck to everyone as you prepare for finals!
bear hugs and Russian wishes!
