Avoiding for once! :-P

Yes, I'm avoiding editting my learning portfolio for class cuz it's a stupid assignment. Anyways, here's a shocker for y'all: I went to the Trail of Terror last night! That's right. I, Elizabeth the scaredy cat, deliberately went to the middle of the woods to get scared. Crazy! But it was actually a lot of fun, which surprised me, considering I usually have nightmares and can't leave my room when it's dark. I think Kristina and Ben were surprised at how much fun I had.

Okay, so it's $15 to get into this place, and the food is expensive just like Ren Fest. (It's actually in the big field adjacent to Ren Fest. We drove right by the entrance to get to the parking for Trail of Terror!) And I'm going, ok... Is this worth it? Well, the first thing we did was go through the Pirate Hallway. Which was kinda cool, but short, and not particularly scary. Just startling when an actual person jumps out at you. Then we got mini-donuts and hot chocolate and got in line for the hay ride. Well, that was around 8:30. We didn't get on the hay ride until after 11. And it was COLD! The worst part is that I don't have any of my winter gear here, so I was wearing a sweatshirt and my windbreaker. I borrowed some gloves from Ben for my hands, but that was it. Brr! Anyways, we were kinda freaking out, cuz the tickets say it's open from 7 til 11. Well, we made friends with the couple that was in front of us in line at the hay ride, and the girl, Joey I think, went and asked one of the workers how late it was open. Turns out the doors close at 11, but as long as you're inside the enclosure, you can stay as long as you want to go through the maze and the hay ride. Within reason, of course. Which was good. Probably the most entertaining thing during the long wait was one of Ben's students coming up to him and chatting a bit. We couldn't tell if she was drunk or just really, really hyper. Anyways, the ride was about 15 minutes, and it wasn't all that scary, just kinda startling. You have to wonder where these people jump out at you from. I think if we had been on the edge of the trailer instead of on top of the haybales, it would have been more scary. But, our feet got warm cuz we had people sitting on them! So, the waiting was worth it to find out that the hay ride is not exactly worth it. Weird logic, but that's how we saw it. Anyways, the two people we made friends with got on the ride before us, so we didn't think we'd see them again. Turns out they ended up right behind us in line for the maze! Which was cool! Also cool cuz we only had to wait a half hour to get into the maze. We went in as a group of five. Oh man, we must have looked so funny! We made a train through the maze, cuz it was really dark in some parts. We made Ben go first, then Kristina, then me, then Joey, and then Jack (or was his name Zach? I can't remember...), and we were all holding onto the back of the jacket of the person in front of us. Ben must've walked into 10 or 15 walls! I know I walked into a few. It was awesome! The scene design kicked ass, and the actors' make-up and costumes were amazing! The rule is that the actors can't touch you as long as you don't touch them, but I think it's creepier when they just shadow you as you walk along. The only thing that sucked was the couple of strobe-light rooms. We've discovered that strobe lights make me sick, so I had to close my eyes during those rooms. :-( It kinda bummed me out, cuz Ben and Kristina said that there were some cool sets in those rooms. Oh, and then one of the actors who was dressed as Freddy Krueger (I think that's the right monster...) came at me from my left side with his hands above his head. You know, like claws. I ducked and moved sideways to the right, only to hit one of the fence posts with my right knee. Which is my bad knee. So I'm wearing my brace today cuz it hurts still. I have a nice bruise there! It's all bright blue and purple with this really red and slightly cut up spot in the middle where I actually hit the post. Oh, the best part of the maze? Indoors and heated!! There was a part where you go back outside, but it's only for a little bit. I think we only saw three or four monsters out there.

So, yeah. That was my Saturday night. 5 hours at the Trail of Terror in 30-something degree weather. Yay! :-)
