I tried to write some happy OoT romance fic once; halfway through it, Link turned into a quiet drunk with intimacy issues. Oh, Hero of Time. Your life. :(

I actually really like the idea of Hylia creating Ghirahim! It sounds plausible that Fi would require an absolute opposite to exist. It would certainly put an excellent twist on the story - the dark, compulsive creation of the goddess seeking ever to consume her light.

[dons headcanon hat] Personally, I always thought of Demise as the the primaeval, elemental darkness that underlies all creation. He is inconceivably ancient - perhaps even moreso than the goddess, herself - but in her he finds a twin, a whole and perfect light, to fit as his equal. This polarity of being is why their battle is endless, why there is always a mortal boy (or someday girl!) who gets trapped in the middle. There must be a mediator to their battle; there must always be a third that is laden with both light and dark.

(And I am currently working my way through the FF.net version right now! I'll leave a round of reviews when I get to the second read-through.)

See, for some reason I tend to lean more toward Oot Zelda whenever I write Oot fics. I don't know why, because I typically lean toward male characters. Oot Zelda is one exception, I guess. She always turns out a little more sulky than I'd like, but I think she can get away with it, circumstances considered.

I like dark romance, if I have to write romance at all. I'm not really interested in the fluffy, cutesy stuff fandom is so flooded with. I like my pairings realistic, conflicted, dramatic - I guess this is why I almost always like the unpopular pairings more.

Yes, headcanon accepted! It's easy to believe that Demise was made first - darkness existing before light - and it's interesting that you see Link (the Hero) as the mediator between all of them, because I personally see Zelda as the glue that holds them both together. Both Link and Ghirahim were after Zelda in SS, for instance, and it is, ultimately, HER doing that "the legend" started in the first place (rather, Hylia's, but still). Still, the wonderful thing about TLoZ is that the three of them - The Princess, The Hero, and The Villain - always coexist. You can't have one without the other two. Perfect balance, really.

Oh, thanks! It really means a lot. I've read some of your stuff on ff.net and was very impressed. I admit that the first few chapters of WbF aren't the strongest - I haven't written a multi-chapter fic in years, there's a reason I stick to drabbles and oneshots. But I hope it's to your liking! It's my baby. I've never put more effort into a fic as I have WbF, so I really hope it's to your liking.

I think I avoided OoT Zelda when I was still actively writing, as I found the depth of her anguish difficult to conceive during my younger years. I find her more interesting now that I'm older, especially in regards to her relationship with Impa. (Of course, I go back to OoT a lot now and wonder whhhhhhhhhy.)

I don't generally mind touches of fluffy romance, though I do generally avoid the overwhelming amount of it in fandom. Granted, I attribute this more to the youthful demographic that makes up the majority of fandom - it takes experience to acknowledge love can just as easily bring out the worst in us. That's why crack pairings are so much fun. :D

I should clarify that while I think Link is the mortal mediator between the goddess and the demon king, he's not the essential element - in a lot of way, he's just the kid that got swept up in the middle. Ganondorf and Zelda are the architects; their actions and choices drive the story. The essential irony of Link's story is that for all is intended to represent the mythological hero and its assertive (masculine) archetype, he is always the passive element. His journey always begins with a profound act of submission to fate. Ganondorf and Zelda act - Link reacts. He is always following in their wake, never leading in front but trailing behind.

I've actually read through the story once, already, so I'm going back again tomorrow for the second read-through. I am enjoying it immensely. Your characterization is amazing - Ghirahim in particular is pitch perfect. And your prose is so rich and textured. ♥ It deserves a second reading.

And thank you for your kind words. :) It's been awhile since I've written anything, but it's encouraging to hear somebody got some enjoyment out of my old work.

Going back to Oot, oh boy...the amount of Fridge Horror in that game is astounding. I look back on it now going "how the FUCK was this game rated E back in the day? The amount of psychological SHIT Link has to go through this deserves a T, at least!" (Such psychological shit including Ruto. Oh, poor Ruto).

Then there's MM. That's another story entirely. Fucknuts.

I don't mind occasional fluff myself, but that's exactly what it is - fluff. There's no substance to it. Though TBH after writing the last chapter to Who By Fire, Imma write the shit out of some fluff.

Oh, yes exactly Zelda and Ganondorf are always the catalysts, Link is just the poor sod who gets stuck between them, over and over again. He's as much a tool of destiny as Zelda and Ganondorf are, poor guy, except he's the one being pushed into danger with the Goddesses going "lol good luck." And people wonder why fans want a happy ending for him, for once?

Thank you for your compliments! I try my best. Who recced it to you, BTW? Just curious. I'm surprised someone was able to rec it to you at all, considering that the SS section of ff.net is flooded with GhiraLink fodder. (There's a reason I don't read Ghirahim fics. 99% of it is yaoi and the other 2% of it is crack...very funny crack, though).

No problem! I go back to some of your stuff every now and then for inspiration.

Oh! I read your reviews for Skyward Sword on your journal - can I just say "YES TO GODDAMN EVERYTHING"?

Haha, yeah, I was completely not surprised when the rating got upped a notch with the remake's release. To this day, I sort of boggle at just how much innuendo slipped under the radar. (The poe collector, man. Link, you need an adult. ;-;)

MM is a total mind...bender, but I sort of absolutely adore it? It's one of the few times I think Nintendo dared to try something different, and the result was the one game in the series that approaches the closest to art. It's a perfect sequel precisely because it doesn't pretend a good ending has to be a perfectly happy one.

I'm very enamored with the idea of Link becoming the Hero of their unending, cyclical war completely by an accident of fate. He caught the eye of a possessive goddess and befriended the wrong mortal girl and now he is stuck endlessly, mercilessly entangled in a story without end.

I should clarify that I wasn't recced this by anybody else - I saw it pop up on my flist once on one of the comms and decided to threw it on my personal rec list for later since I hadn't beaten the game at the time and didn't want spoiled. (I know, I know, shouldn't have waited until February to buy the game if I wanted that.) Actually, the order sort of went like this - first, I read your drabbles. I was like, "Man, these are some amazing stories! Her style kind of reminds me of that one Link/Midna drabble I found on FF.net once." *clicks through your journal* "Oh, she wrote that drabble on FF.net. Well, now I definitely have to read that story." AND NOW I HAVE. I'm hoping to start reviewing tonight. Do you want chapter by chapter review or just summary ones every few chapter?

(Alas, I am super fierce blushing right now at your comment about my little fics/reviews. Thank you very much! It's an honor to know such a talented author enjoyed my work.)

THE POE GUY. Jesus, when I played Oot again a few years ago, after not playing it since I was 12 or so, when I got to that part...I went "what da FUCK Nintendo??"

I love MM! It's dark and dramatic and creepy and hnnng everything I like about video games, and the fact that Nintendo had the balls to make it just makes MM better to me. It's the one I've replayed most besides Oot. I tried for YEARS to find the Limited Edition set for the GC...you know, the one with Zelda I, II, Oot and MM on one disk? That one. Tried for years to find it before I snagged it off ebay for $60. I admit, I only got it because MM was on it. At the time I didn't own a Wii and didn't want to get an emulator.

Zelda is the only game series I put down money for immediately. Even if I have to get a new console to play just one game, I do it. (I'm still miffed that I paid nearly $400 for the 3DS/Oot 3D and then the price went down a month later...but I might as well keep it, just in case).

Oh, same here, poor sod can't catch a break, he doesn't even end up with the princess in any of the games, and his companion leaves him too. Man, if I were Link I'd say "fuck this destiny bullshit, I'll do what I want!" And then the Goddesses would smite me. I guess this is why Link is always the Hero.

(Pssst Link and Zelda are totally at BJ level in SS, we all know it...at least Link has that right?)

If you would be so kind, I would prefer chapter by chapter reviews, if it's not too much of a hastle. I just like hearing people's thoughts chapter by chapter so it's more organized. It would be lovely if you could do that, and you don't even have to do it immediately. Thanks so much, again :)

It's no problem, I really do like your stuff! They have a very nice minimalist feel, which is something I strive for myself. I get some flack for it on other places ("whaaah you don't describe the scenerey enough whaaah" and such). But, truly, your writing is marvelous too!
