Time for another movie review.
For Your Consideration : A-
It took me a while to finish the film. I watch it at night, and keep falling asleep because I'm exhausted by the time I get around to it, but here's a short review. This film is about the way people act and treat others in response the buzz created in the film industry. Taking fictional character from the set of the film "Home for Puram", we follow the steadily increasing buzz until the film (retitled "Home for Thanksgiving" to make it less Jewish) and the actors become unrecognizable. Marilyn, the lead actress goes from humble origins in completing her last film, to a Lynsay Lohanesque transformation with botox, highlights, and most of all the confusing personality switch which makes her both slightly airheaded and completely full of herself. The male lead goes from commercial fame as the "footlong hotdog man" to the "almost nominated for an academy award" has been that can't move on without some form of validation. The third character, who also recieves buzz about a leading actress award goes from being an earnest girl who just wants to act and avoid trophy collecting, to the girl caught up in the hype who sells out and throws aside the ones she loves. The fourth actor ends up getting nominated, even though he was the only character not to get any buzz at all, and the irony is that he was the least focused on. The acting is absolutely superb with the likes of Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge, John Higgins, Jane Lynch, etc. It's always good to be reminded of what hype and self-indulgence can lead to, although the reason the rating didn't receive a full A is because of the lack of focus on those who lived beyond the hype. I though slightly more could have been spent on the last actor, but at the same time acknowledge that it may give too much hope in a situation where the emphasis is on the tragedy of the characters caught in the buzz. I recommend this highly as a rent, and if you enjoy films like "A Mighty Wind" or "Sideways" you may want to buy it. It's swell.
