A Scandal in Belgravia

I want to write about Scandal, but I don't think I can do the episode justice.

It was worth the year and a half wait, seriously. The cinematography was outstanding, I stand by the fact that Paul McGuigan is a genius. The transitions between scenes were innovative and exciting and I especially loved the idea of placing Sherlock and Irene by the dead ( Read more... )

Was it simply Sherlock's delusional thinking? His wish for Irene to have remained alive? Perhaps.

Woah...I've never seen anyone interpret it that way so far. But it's such a brilliant spin on it and I love it so. You have just blown my mind, dear madam.

It was a fantastic episode though despite the little niggles I have with it. ^_^

Yes, the little niggles remain but the sheer amazingness of the episode eclipses them in the end!

I'm wondering if, perhaps during a tense scene in The Reichenbach Fall, we might just hear Sherlock's phone go "aahhh."

Yes. I am very concerned about Stephen Thompson penning the episode, however it's being directed by Toby Haynes who has directed Being Human and some episodes of DW including The Impossible Astronaut/Day of the Moon. So I don't think we have anything to worry about looks wise. I hope that Moffat and Gatiss already worked out in which direction they wanted Reichenbach to go, and advised Thompson.

I'm thinking that they probably will leave us with wondering if Sherlock is dead or alive. I am pretty certain we see the immediate aftermath of the fall as I have seen set photographs printed in the tabloids. But this is, literally, the biggest 'cliffhanger' there is and so I doubt they would pass up an opportunity to leave us hanging!

Yeah Moffat and Gatiss seem to have a clear vision of how they want this show to be and you can tell that, despite being a crime drama, the characters are the main focus and they like to see them done right. So hopefully they keep Thompson on a tight leesh. That wasn't meant to sound dirty at all but I kind of walked into it. :P

A "is he dead or not?" seems like the most likely way to end it. I haven't heard any confirmation for a third series so for all purposes they could just end the series right there if they want to, like Doyle originally wrote that story to be the end of Sherlock Holmes. That really worked out well....

I see what you did thar! XD

Har har har :p

I've read a few interviews where the interviewer has asked the interviewee if they want to continue being in Sherlock/third series. They mainly say that it has been an honour to have been involved in Sherlock. A few have said that they hope Sherlock will continue for as long as it deserves, but that we must wait to see what happens in Reichenbach.

I think they've been ordered by Moffat to be deliberately vague!

Eeeep. If that was really said in the past tense as it is there then it doesn't sound too hopeful. Still, they do seem to wait until near the final episode to announce these things properly.

Moffat, you evil genius. *shakes fist*

This is from digital spy- Benedict Cumberbatch
"Are you keen to star in a third series of Sherlock?
"I really enjoy doing it, and that's all I'm going to say on that!"

And this is from the telegraph
He is coy about Sherlock’s future, though; partly because the final episode of the new series is based on The Final Problem, in which Conan Doyle notoriously snuffed out Holmes via a Moriarty showdown at the Reichenbach Falls - a cliffhanger in every sense. “I should maybe say that I’m ready to say goodbye to him, but I would miss him,” says Cumberbatch, choosing his words with Holmesian precision. “It’s much better to leave people wanting more.”

Lara Pulver on digital spy
Assuming Irene survives 'A Scandal In Belgravia', would you like to return to Sherlock in the future?
"It would be a privilege to work with Steven, Mark and the entire team [again] on this project, and on other projects."

I can't remember where the other ones were!
