A Luddite evolves

Today started out wistful -- for a sunnier day, for something definite to do with it -- and ended up satisfying, because I solved a problem that's been bothering me for a while.

Back in the day, I maybe had to print something about once a year, usually around tax time. I had housemates with printers, so that proved not much of a problem and I had no need of printer cluttering my desk. But lately, recently, in the past few months? Oh, I've had many printing needs.

I've needed to print tax forms; I've needed to print medical claims; I've needed to print diplomatic letters to my landlord. I've even needed to print movie tickets.

It's been a pain -- hopefully more for me than for anyone else, but still.

So, today I was sitting around filling in an Excel sheet with my recent expenses (because, yeah, it was that kind of day). And I was thinking how nice it would be to get reimbursed for some of those medical bills recently paid. And then I went down the path of plotting the trajectory of how to get the printing need filled. And then I grew tired and cranky. And then I decided that the time, the one I've promised some friends was coming, it had come: it was time to buy a printer.

And, within two hours I had found one new in the box on Craigslist, bussed one neighborhood over to pick it up, brought it home and set it up, and (Yes! Valhalla!) printed and filled out my medical claim.

Also, I can't believe that my new HP printer-scanner-copier cost me $75 and would have cost just $100 new.

I am a Luddite.

But now: one who can print.
