I have this memory of a line in Allen Ginsberg's "America" that reads "America is empty as my back pocket," but when I looked up the poem online, I can't find that line. Trouble is, in every online version that I read, I notice inconsistencies (during high school, I memorized both the published version, and the original unedited version that he read at a gathering, of which I have a recording). There are some differences between those two, but these online versions are not consistent with either, so now I'm wondering if perhaps I imagined this line, or if it is from some other poem that I am mixing up with "America"...or maybe it's actually from one of these versions, neither of which are online?
