i suppose you could say that bright eyes can range in genres..but i am fully prepared to back my opinion of what i think the feel bright eyes takes on (which is the belle and sebastian, elliot smith, etc. style).
"...underground alternative folk scene..." "...the secret of alternative folk music..." "...Bright Eyes (folk/alternative), every song on..."
(from several album reviews. don't ask why i wasted my time citing out the ass.)
read up on it a bit. i'm fond of adjectives, thank you.
let's take a deep breathe...ready? here we go... the categorization of music: not only is it impossible to try and knock down and number something like a melody, it's also a waste of time. who gives a shit whether it's 'alternative folk' or 'alt country' or 'folk rock' or 'roots rock' it's all splitting hairs. when i said, (and i quote) 'bright eyes = lovely folk' i was stating an opinion. you inform me that i should (here i go, quoting again) "get the shit right" not only were you picking out said shit to complain about, you were also off the mark; 'lovely' was meant as an affectionate nod to the artists, not as an attempt to pigeonhole.
people who relentlessly attempt to lasso music, and force it into a genre turn it into a fucking math problem. this wasn't meant as an attack so much, as a writer rushing to defend his adjectives.
well..... i'm not going to debate something that really isn't worth debating, due to the fact that a genre is something that might as well differ, due to opinions...hence the reason i said "my opinion of what i think the feel bright eyes takes on". yeah.
...i'm not here to attack either or try to brand myself as a bitch for voicing my opinion on the genre of a small 'lovely folk' band. sorry if i offended you saying, "get your shit right." i do tend to get carried away at times. i am but a human.
i'm sort of in the danger zone anywho, due to the fact that you all are friends here and would all collaborate point blank to attack anyone that would take the first step to even try to insult your opinions. so, i'll say 'adieu' and i'll just stop arguing aimlessly. <3
