Why I Hated the Prada Movie

As I said last night, I hated The Devil Wears Prada. This was a minority opinion among the people in the theater, and even though Cristina didn't like it either, she didn't have the true loathing for it that I shared while we were waiting for the midnight movie ( Read more... )

But newspaper reporters in the movies always work 9-5, which makes ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING SENSE, but that would ensure that she lives Happily Ever After And Stuff.

I think the worst part was how she lost weight to get down to a SIZE 4 for the job...and celebrated it. I expected that would be turned around in the end somehow, but no. There was no further mention of it.

Oh yeah, seeing as physical appearance should have had nothing to do with whether she got hired or not. Wouldn't that have been illegal if it was the reason she didn't get the job? She wasn't applying to be one of the models.

It would be illegal, yes- but I think my wording was misleading; she didn't do it to be hired, but rather to fit in better once she was already there. Assumption being that anything larger than a size 4 is unacceptable fashion-wise and unable to be in vogue. How's THAT for perpetuating an unhealthy image? She was so proud of the fact, too...that really pissed me off.

Yep, it's a 25-year-old who loses weight she doesn't need to lose and then gets drunk and sleeps with a creepy 40-year-old without any regret. Sounds like she would have fit in perfectly in Dallas.
