I've been giving this issue some thought for, oh, at least 15 years.
The more I analyse it, the more I realise what a fucking stupid, pointless, dumb, deluded action voting is. For a multitude of very good reasons, too, I might add. Here are a few, starting with the least significant:
1) It's a numbers game. If you really think your vote makes a difference, get your fucking head checked. If you *really* wanted to make a difference, you would take some positive action. Write to your MP, fund a movement, start a thinktank, go to your local surgery, discuss issues with people, spread awareness. YOUR VOTE MEANS FUCK ALL.
2) Your vote has absolutely no relevance whatsoever in the decisions and policies that will be made. Even the least cynical adult in the world is aware of the fact that few politicians act responsibly or with any integrity. They are not looking out for you. They are taking care of the interests of institutions and corporations whose voices are infinitely louder and who apply infinitely more pressure than you could ever hope to. Your voice is not heard.
3) Time at the polling station is time better spent doing almost anything else. You could actually fucking ACHIEVE something using those hours.
4) By voting you resign yourself to the will and whim of those in power. That's right: YOU helped, in your tiny way, to put or keep these lying, insidious fuckwits in power. You are COMPLICIT in their action. IF YOU VOTED, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN. On the other hand, I, as a non-voter, get to stand by as an outsider and judge. I haven't taken part in this twisted enterprise, nor have I invested myself in any way into a group of lying cunts. When I see bad decisions being made, or my liberties being eroded, I get to speak up and say, "I did not fucking ask for this shit! I refuse to play your game!".
There's more but I'm missing an episode of SG-1.
UPDATE: Seems even contentious inflammatory posts don't manage to lure LJ lurkers out anymore :( *sniff*
