This is probably asking for trouble here, but was she much worse than previous Home Secretaries? The Met have been shits on their own terms, and there's still no sign of ID cards.
The porn and the expenses are (should!) not even be a factor here. It's her unrelenting, ill-conceived assault against civil liberties and decision upon decision against better informed expert opinion. I think all that stuff is pretty evident to anybody who cursorily follows the news!
I stopped listening to R4 when the economic crash kicked in with its unremitting tedium so I'm happy to accept that I'm out of the loop, but 42 day detention has been knocking around for years and drug policy by media has always been the case. I really doubt any replacement of either party is going to reverse these decisions.
The comments in the link just seem to be endless statements of how awful a Home Secretary she's been without any supporting evidence.
Not sure we're reading the same link. I saw a shedload of relevant facts being brought out. Also, a bunch of people pointing out that, given past trends, the next HS will be even worse. I'm in that camp, myself.
That I can certainly agree with. I reckon this is more to do with a cross party cycle of one-upmanship when it comes to kowtowing to the rightwing press than it is to do with individual personalities though.
Also - and this is somthing which affects me and a lot of people I know - she passes law upon law and alteration upon alteration to immigration law which has severely fucked up the lives of smart people who were building lives here, at the rate of at least one serious new caveat every week or two. It's absolutely insane. If you had been watching her closely as some have you'd be aware of so much of these things. You should maybe look at researching her track record yourself. It's long and tedious and fraught with u-turns, embarrassment and stubbornness.
