Training Wheels Are Off

This is miraculous… a new PC. By “new”, I mean new. Like virtually right out of the factory. HP 2009m with a 20-inch flat monitor and Windows 7. Since yesterday I have gone from 6GB to 600!?!? I can access any website now, instantly. I don’t have to comb through my Temporary Files folder on a daily basis any longer to free up space. It starts up in about ten seconds flat instead of the three minutes I’ve been used to. Front-loading USB and multi-card slots for peripherals. I don’t need to take my digital camera down to CVS anymore to get pics put on a disc. I can’t get over this ginormous monitor! I can watch movies with better clarity than my TV. And even low-res images look like they are sharpened and blended to appear more detailed. This monitor is so freaking wide I need to buy a new desk to fit it. I can finally load the Adobe Photoshop 7 that a former boss of mine gave me a few years ago. I can *gasp* actually watch something on YouTube.

In 2010 this all must sound like some Rip Van Winkle coming out of the woods and marveling at motor carriages and home type-set contraptions - but seriously, I have been using bear skins and stone knives ‘till now in a digital sense. I can download the free version of Google Earth! I have always wanted that since it came out. The Internet has sort of supplanted the morning paper for me in recent years, but the dozen or so sites I visit regularly used to take me about ten minutes to surf. I just finished those same sites in about three minutes. Unbelievable that I tolerated so much less for so long.

My single, solitary concern is that I now have a hard drive large enough to take on some pretty serious viruses and worms. My computer geek acquaintances have been telling me that Feng-Huang might have been safe from those because there simply wasn’t enough room for a modern virus to move into and set up house. Eh, I’m too intoxicated with 21st-century technology at the moment to worry. And I need to continue the tradition and give this thing a name.

I wonder if I can pick up some extra money with this thing…? Lord knows saving up for it took more than a while and I still need to buy a compatible printer and scanner.

And I broke down and installed the AC yesterday ‘cause I couldn’t take 80° and 95% humidity any longer. Then almost as if by response it instantly turned into Spring again and I felt like a wimp. Eh, the bedroom AC always goes in the window in June, so I’m not gonna fret.

EDIT 3:21 PM ~ No Photoshop for me; my Photoshop 5LE or Photoshop 7 are far too old to be compatible with this. Eh, I'm still ecstatic^^ Just gotta buy some used software.
