Awww! So jealous that you're with horses. I miss riding like crazy! That sounds like a lot of fun!

BTW, I totally applied for an animal care job at the Science Center in LA. :P I'm sure they'll hire someone already in the area, but it would be nice to be back in SoCal anyways. :P

(slow Kirsten is slow to reply! Sowwy!)

OMG, I've always wanted to learn barrel racing. I've done a lot of western trail riding and took English lessons and done vaulting here and there, but barrel racing just looks like so much fun.

Even if I don't get this job, I'm seriously thinking about moving down there anyways. I really miss SoCal. And since I'm sort of trying to move into a freelance illustration/science illustration career, the LA area is sort of a big center for illustration jobs. The biggest thing stopping me now is money and logistics of getting there...

Slooooow ;D

Depends on where you wanna go to school. Some schools have university housing which can be cheaper then regular apartments. The place I'm moving to is 710/month with electric and utilities in the rent.

I really hope you come back here :D

Wow, is that school housing? The place I had in San Diego was in a gang/drug neighborhood and it was $850/month, withOUT utilities!

Yeah, its the housing for cal poly pomona.

Ah, that's not bad at all. It seems like school housing is always MORE expensive than it should be. :P

It usually is, but in this economy no one wants to live in the student housing that isn't on campus so they've lowered the price to try and bring in more people.

What schools are you looking at in CA for art?

LCAD is my number one at the moment, but it's priiiiiiicey, being private art school and all - $23k/year. So it depends on whether or not I could get loans to cover it. I know that I'd really need to get on the ball in getting a CA license and establishing residency in CA so that I could take advantage of in-state tuition at public colleges. And I'm certainly not opposed to taking community college classes that I really learn a lot from.

Ultimately, I REALLY want to learn animation. I know I can't get into CalArts animation, nor could I afford it anyways. I don't know about getting into USC's animation program, I think their acceptance rate is 10%, and again, waaaay too expensive. But I don't feel like I need a "name" school - I need one that's going to teach me what I need to know to get a job SOMEWHERE, and I can develop my skills on my own from there.

Community college classes are really hard to come by since with the back up in the University admissions everyone's being thrown into community college, and no one wants to leave (no point getting out to go no where). I'm at Mt. San Antonio College right now and we have a pretty decent art program. We have an AS degree in animation as well as a certificate in traditional, 2D and 3D animation. Plus you'd be able to take advantage of the cal poly 710/month housing ;D

...dude. Totally just flipped through their course listings for the animation program, and that's exactly the kind of curriculum I'm looking for. o_O

I'm incredibly temped right now! Even going full-time on out-of-state tuition, that's still only like $10k/year or less... and after the first year, I could apply for in-state tuition and be even cheaper... actually that's looking like one of the best options right now...

The hardest thing right now is just figuring out logistics - when/how/etc... I'm STILL waiting to hear back from SeaWorld on the Animal Care job. My swim test and interview went really well, but I know that at least one other applicant already worked there in Education, and another had paid marine mammal experience - those are the ones I know of. Plus, I'm the farthest person away from Florida, and I'm sure that doesn't help my case. *sigh*

I would, however, love to get a volunteer foot in the door at a CA zoo...

Wow, but at least you got the chance to try :D

In case you're interested here's the website for the housing
http://www.foundation.csupomona.edu/village/

stupid site still says 775 for phase three and 660 for phase two but they actually made them the same price at 710 for the coming year -_-

True! And I got to swim in the manatee pool with a manatee in there. And go to Disney World the next day. :P

(And OMG, I miss Disneyland so hard.)

Thanks for the link - I will definitely look into that! I don't have a job right now since my Half Price Books temp job ended last month... I'm kind of sitting around all day stalking FB and Twitter and Tumblr and trying to keep myself from getting too distracted from working on my illustration portfolio/website. :P So really, all I have to do when I decide to move is pick a day, pack the car, and go. Well, and find the money to pay for getting myself down there and settled in - that's the hard part. :/

Omg manatee! Our manatees are gone from SD. Florida called them back :(

(dude this summer is going to be pretty epic for the parks here :D)

Well if you decide to come back down here let me know ahead of time. I'd be willing to help you move back :D
