Why are the Council Members from Bell not in jail? Why are most of them still being allowed to maintain their jobs with salaries over $100,000 a year? Sure that's a drop from the $400,000-$1,000,000 that they were making by stealing from the city, but it's not anywhere near punishment enough. There should be serious jail time for all involved with this. It's basically grand theft and I'm sure a whole bunch of other charges. People who steal cars get it worse than these politicians.
Their punishment has basically been a lite slap on the wrist that missed the target.
There's heavy amounts of proof that these people can't be trusted and only three are stepping down. That's it? They're not fired, just paying for their crimes in any way. Reality is that they get to hang out and live off the savings of millions of stolen dollars. Hard economy? Not for political thieves. Even if they can't find another job they're still pretty set.
Where's the justice?
What really gets me is that Bell's not even a rich city. It's a bunch of poor folk who don't have much to their names. If they were all rich at least there would be less worry about the continued stability of the residents. However, if they were rich this whole thing would probably never have gotten to this level as some lawyer or someone's lawyer would be set up to watch for such maneuvers.
All I ask is for equality across the board. If I'm not allowed to steal from the government then the government shouldn't be able to steal from it's constituents.
