The Meeting Buffer Technique

Jul 14, 2011 03:15

You know how there's always that person in the group that's 5 minutes late? That's me. Or how setting a very specific meeting time doesn't ever really work?

Well a friend uses a really neat trick. Whenever you are meeting with people, instead of setting a specific time, you set a 15 minute timespan. So instead of saying "let's meet at 530pm", you say "let's meet at 530/545pm". Works like a charm! That way ppl start arriving around 530, and by around 545 you're ready to start. And the little things that come up that take 5 min while you're on the way don't matter anymore.

Compare all that to using a fixed time: each person is guaranteed to either be early, or late, and nobody's happy.
