So, I did actually start the next episode and had a plan laid out for it. This was how far I'd got (and, incidently, an example of the skeletal starting point all my episodes were born out of):

Lex woke up late; soft, welcome rays of sunshine washing over him through his bedroom curtains, painting the room in a mixture of fresh orange and yellow. He felt calm and rested and relaxed. Which was new.
Then he rolled over to find the other half of his bed empty and his chest started to freeze again. Until he saw the folded note on the pillow with his name on.
He sat up to open it, letting the sunlight draw mottled patterns on his chest, and the crisp paper rustled loudly beneath his fingers, filling the stillness of the room.
It said - Sleep well. I love you.
In Kryptonian.
But it was signed using a human alphabet. Two letters - CK.
A duality that summed Clark Kent up quite nicely, Lex felt.
He turned to the state of the art, digital clock on his bedside cabinet, currently nestled among the miniature city of Valium and sleeping pill pots, and was shocked to find it read 11:20. No wonder Clark had to leave - he might be able to get his chores done in record time, but a farm's timetable still needed them finished early.
A brief flair of irritation rose up in Lex at the way the other man had left him sleeping - and apparently disabled his alarm too, which should have buzzed him awake at 6:30. But then a new wave of sunshine splashed over him, soft and calming, and Lex remembered he'd be planning to get up early simply so he could leave Smallville forever in good time. That certainly wasn't happening anymore.
So maybe Clark's idea hadn't been such a bad one. It had left him properly awake and alert, after all - a state he could hardly claim of the last few months.
Lex folded the note up, then folded it again, running his thumb and forefinger over the crease to keep it neat and sharp. And smiled.
