Tales from a cardboard house Part 2

This house has a few things in its favor. This is one of them:

It's not an unobstructed view of the mountain, but it's still nice to have out your window when eating breakfast. There used to be a desert across the street too, but they're furiously putting up town homes and it's a big mud pit now.

I'm also really at the edge of the town. A week after moving in I found out that neither DSL nor cable internet were going to serve me. (Cable will be installed in the new houses going up across the street.. grumble.) So what did I do?

This is pointed at an antenna a mile away, put up by a local power company.

It's not cheap and it's not fast. My biggest frustration however is that I'm on a private IP, so I can't run any sort of server. Perhaps when they finish the houses across the street I can convince the cable company to run a cable over here. Or I could move.. In the meantime, at least I can surf the net and read email.
