If only…
Why are the right-wing people so up-in-arms about the so-called “gay agenda”? I’ll give you a hint guys, there isn’t one!! Since being gay is not so much a choice as something you’re born with, nobody’s “converting” anyone. Are they afraid that if homosexuality becomes acceptable, that their kids will come out of the closet? Would they rather they stay “closeted” and deal with all the associated social problems that go with that? Or are they just misinformed? Many of the people who are so afraid of gay people so as to champion laws to specifically ignore gay history have this to say “This is about pushing a blatant sexual agenda -- including sex changes that involve cutting off body parts -- upon impressionable schoolchildren as young as kindergarten!” (Randy Thompson, quoted from the San Francisco Chronicle) Now I may be a little behind-the-times, but nowhere in any history of gay culture and tolerance has there been anything about teaching children to cut off body parts (which doesn’t really happen in sex-changes anyway) in kindergarten… Its so sad how far a little misinformation will go.
Protect the family? How are families protected by making closeted kids stay isolated and alone? Teen suicide rates are already highest among closeted gay kids, so would a death in the family benefit the overall structure? Or would it be harder to accept Alice bringing the girl she loves home for dinner? Or do they just want to ignore the issue entirely and are pissed at anything that threatens what they think is good for us? Last time I checked, mainly these Republicans who push this agenda stand for small government. I guess its small government with an asterisk when they feel like it.
