I've read through all four pages of the theory and I'm fascinated by it -- but although you claim that the theory involves "everybody", I think you've left an exceedingly important piece off the board -- Snape. I think his role needs to be addressed -- and I'm not just saying that because I'm a Snapefan, I'm saying it because it's evident from the very first book in the series that Snape will play an important role both in Harry's school life and (from GoF on at least) in the Second War.

Any thoughts on this?

I was wondering about Snape too actually. If your theory is true (and it's an awesome theory, btw) then Snape would have to do something very important in one or both of the next books. Dumbledore trusts Snape and never wavers in his trust. He even sends him out to do a private errand for him at the end of GoF. Yet Ron (and the gang) hate Snape. It makes me wonder what Snape will do in the future for Ron to change his mind if this is true, you know? Do you figure him anywhere on the chessboard or would you say his errand and/or future important role is something separate? If Dumbledore is the one who sends him on the errand, then he would have to be another chess piece correct? Or would you assume he's another pawn?

Not to call so much attention to myself, but I admitted my own version, which should become updated at some point, so the board shows that I have Snape as a Rook, being the castle, because while it isn't made blatant, Snape spends much of his time protecting those around him. Also, through his deal with Dumbledore, he is intricatly tied to the castle.

So, yeah. My version has him in there, instead of Lupin, but has Lupin as one of the pawns. Remember, the pawns are very important too. These are like the most elite of all the book characters. There isn't a Myrtle in here.

personally I didn't know where to put him... I debated with him one either side as he is "playing" sides... DD does trust him, but Ron will only have knowledge of he's around for before he goes back in time.

He is an important character, however for 6 weeks of chewing on this, throwing it out to you all seemed the next best step to take.

Also, you may wat to re-read this original post, as info was added and some links to the additional info/observations sbbo contributed:)

And thank you on the kudos... hard work yes.. but we had to get it out here for all to see.

glad you're facinated!

I personally struggled with Snape in assigning him a place on the chess board. He's hard to place for me, as he's "playing" to both sides... and yeah.

What do you think? Did you check the Chess links? Maybe you see something I don't and can add it here so we can update the pieces page?
