my enormous amount of reading is taunting me, and I am handling it by avoiding it. there is nothing new under the sun. went rock climbing (yeah, I know, me?) today with Lauren and didn't make it all the way up because my arms were shaking like crazy for my second go (i fell off the rock the first time after getting somewhat further). thinking of trying it again because it was a lot of fun and now that I've found something that is difficult but possible, I HAVE to do it. decided to watch the season opener of the O.C. and was let down in a terrible way, so I am now in search of a new evening dramedy to look forward to everyweek. mean girls viewing in the apt. and some reading. third day of class tomorrow, just geology, which I will most likely drop in favor of a grad class on Chicano/a lit. oh and I'm dropping my rather dull history of european intellectual movements of the 19th century (whew!) in favor of modern american history. romance class has lots of old stuff in it (medieval-style) but is more palatable because of the adorable british man-prof and his fresh way of looking at stuff and making it relevant and new. also get to read Winter's Tale and Persuasion at the end to show how courtly romance evolves over time. i like it when profs do that instead of obsessing over a time period or genre and making it seem like the only important one i.e. crazy auerbach's love affair with victorian novels and total dismissal of the 20th century as having happened. creative non-fiction writing class is GREAT and my prof writes sweet articles for NYtimes and magazines (the best form of media). and we got a couple of cute writing exercises the first day. joyce/homer class is a lot overwhelming but I'm gonna stick with it because I've been waiting to take it for so long. hopefully buying books or groceries tomorrow...depending on how much the books cost. don't worry, I'm not starving, I have plenty of oatmeal. besides french fries and pizza (and free beer) are super cheap. tried to break in a new pair of shoes today and earned two blisters on my heels. as I'm applying my band-aids my mom calls and gives me a tip to break them in wearing socks in my apt. go figure. oh and Hemo the sandwich cart guy gave me a free shirt. It's tiny and bright pink and has the logo he created for his food cart on it. he had them in a grocery bag, one XL white one for mike and one kid's size bright pink for me. He didn't ask us for size or color input. I'm glad that he thinks that mike is a giant and I am extremely small. i guess its a little more exagerrated when we stand next to each other? or we look more extreme from his point of view in the food cart looking out?
