Day 1, lathery blither

Aug 31, 2013 13:29

I'm trying the 30 days of posting meme.

Today -- a few words about a favorite fascination of mine: shaving; purrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. This was prompted by an extremely disappointing story I was directed to with promises of shaving erotica that were misleading and overblown. I now have the mental and emotional equivalent of rucky tummy from eating badly prepared, undercooked, infected fic.
[usually very good author, high-high hit count and kudos spurting everywhere--but trope fic, poorly written]. Such a disappointment. I also came across a bit of Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett & Ritchie version) shaving art with a straight razor that was held in a ridiculous position in two different views. This is a difficult fascination to fictionally fulfill. Which led me to ... I would kill, I would *pay* for a shaving vid.

Starting with Cary Grant. and Cary Grant and Cary Grant in Walk, Don't Run; and William Holden in The Thin Man movies; and  W.C. Fields; or Robert Duvall or Don Draper (with Roger in a barbershop [tragically too brief]) or George Harrison shaves a mirror; Buster Keaton ("Take that barnacle off his lip!") or Charlie Chaplin in The Great Dictator (honing and stropping!) or Edward G. Robinson in Key Largo or Popeye and Bluto (love the razor honing); Gene Wilder in Blazing Saddles J. Harker and Dracula (I always forget that Dracula shaves him in this version); the visually addictive but canonically abominable Jeeves & Wooster/Frye & Laurie series; DeNiro in The Untouchables; Doc Holliday in Tombstone!; Brando in Last Tango in Paris (scarily bad angle to the blade, though; I would have thought Brando was a straight-razor guy); Michael Corleone in Godfather III; James Garner in the bathtub in the Maverick remake movie; Lawrence of Arabia, in the desert; Maurice Chevalier in Gigi; Bogart (ugh) in Treasure of the Sierra Madre and The African Queen; heh, Henry Fonda in My Name Is Nobody, which popped up on a local crap movie station recently; Captain Hook, Smee, and the seagull...
good grief, there must be one in Deadwood somewhere.

Men being shaved by women -- eh, doesn't do it for me, but from memory, there's the over-praised James Bond scene in Skyfall; John Travolta being shaved in Phenomenon; Sean Connery in The Great Train Robbery; Albert Finney in Tom Jones; Dean Martin in Rio Lobo; James Caan in Misery (by scary Kathy Bates); and the overgrown hairy Robert Downey Jr. being fully shaved with a straight razor by Nicole Kidman in Fur...

So, I've spent too much time on this already. One rec for the extended shaving description in Philip Larkin's Jill; and a link for the nouveau kinky: (Soft Spoken) Straight Razor Shave ASMR Roleplay for the Gents
