We had a bad omen today.

When I woke up this morning the hallway was covered in glass. My favorite portrait of the kids was lying face up and the glass had shattered like it had fallen fast and hard. I was really surprised by the distance the shards flew. I swept and went over the tile with a wet towel to get any tiny invisible shards. I woke up the kids but told them to put on thier shoes right away until I could go over it again. Then I woke up Vang. I told him what had happened and told him to watch where he stepped just in case. He got the strangest look on his face. Later after the kids had gone to school he asked me if I saw it fall. Did I bump into the wall or anything. I said no it must have fallen during the night, after Jay Leno cause that was the last time either of us had gone to the bathroom. He checked the wall to see if the nail had come out. He checked the back of the picture to see if the hanger had broken off. He sounded odd. He said he was surprised it fell so hard but the noise didn't wake anyone up. Strange. I have never before known him to be surperstitious but he said in Vietnam this would make his family very scared. He said it was when a picture fell for no reason. No one around. No obvious reason. Worse yet that it was a picture of the kids. I thought he meant like ghosts but he thought I was teasing him because obviously Buddhists don't believe in ghosts. Reincarnation taking care of that. He said this was a very bad omen. Said he'd call me later to see how the day went. Weird.
