so, yes, last January 20th, i did turn 27. three years 'til 30.

i was actually very, very sick on my birthday, unfortunately.

the last thursday before it, we ate at a korean place that we hadn't been to in quite a while, and it was not as good as it was before - i think i got food poisoning from the jjamppong we ordered (it had not-very-fresh shellfish that i was stupid enough to eat). by that evening i was experiencing stomach cramps and LBM, plus fever. i eventually got better by saturday evening, but during boxing training, i had a medicine ball drill where my instructor was 'conditioning' my midsection by hitting it repeatedly with a medicine ball, which i probably should have cancelled, knowing how sensitive my bowels were at the time. i was able to do badminton training and games for the entire day after no problem, but then by monday i was starting to feel really painful stomach cramps that had me literally rolling around the floor in pain. i barely had enough sleep that night because i was waking up to pain and stomach cramps and having to go to the toilet so frequently, but thankfully it got a little better the next day, tuesday (birthday), as if just to give me the opportunity to be more or less physically able to go about and reasonably enjoy.

then on wednesday, it flared up again, but even worse than before - so i had no choice but to go to a Gastroenterologist, which was also incidentally the most painful doctor visit ever just because i had to wait for two hours, willing myself to NOT leave because i was in so much pain (plus i had to go about two times, which was embarrassing). finally, it was my turn to see the doctor - and what do you know, it's acid reflux, AGAIN.

at first i just couldn't believe it. i thought i had gotten over it completely. what was all the exercise and eating right and sacrificing vices for?! anyway, the doctor prescribed me some PPIs again (which i hate because i a one of the very few who feel side effects from them, mostly body pain / musculoskeletal pain), and some Avarin to calm down my bowels and allow me to eat.

i was still convinced that i still had food poisoning, and i was very skeptical that it really was another episode of acid reflux - mostly because the symptoms i felt was so different than what i felt a year ago! anyway, i followed the doctor's advice and drank the PPI the very afternoon after i had gone to the clinic, and behold, dramatic improvement! the next day, i drank another one, and again, no more intense stomach cramps - though i still felt constant discomfort in my stomach. anyway, to cut the story short, earlier today, which is the third day since i went to the doctor, i'm feeling much, much better. the only problem is that at night, when the PPI seems to start to wear off (i take it in the morning), i still feel really, really uncomfortable and sick.

i just wish i go back to normal soon, because i'm losing even more sleep because of this :((

physically, some pretty depressing stuff, especially after all that hard work i did last year.

so, yes, birthday.

here's a detailed account of what i did that day :

the day started out unusually early, because i had to be in Bulacan for pre-bid / site inspection with other contractors. left home at around 630am, got stuck in traffic briefly, and finally arrived there at around 8am, an hour before meeting time. waited around for the Meralco people to arrive ... which, as usual, was around 10am. -_-' when they finally did arrive, we went on a convoy to get to the actual site, which took us another hour.

there, we discussed things we could only appreciate on-site (of course, with these kinds of things, you usually discuss the plans in a more formal conference room, then visit the site), then, after 45 minutes, it was over. surveyed the site some more after all the other people were gone - walked around, waded through shoulder-high grass, encountered one small snake and some frogs plus lots of flies. then i was off, and on the way back to the office at around 1130am.

encountered some serious traffic as i was making my way back to NLEX. i was stuck for about one and a half hours before reaching the highway; from there it took me just 15 minutes to get to the mindanao avenue exit, and into more traffic in QC.

when i finally made it to marcos highway, i took a break and ate something special for my special day, which was ... Mang Inasal -_-' lame. then i was back in the office to do some more work, and finally, sundown. the work day was finished.

but it can't end like this, i thought. i frantically searched if there were any screenings left of "The Hobbit : The Battle of Five Armies", and indeed there were two left! ... but they're in Galleria and Megamall, and i didn't want to drive all the way there anymore, not after driving most of the day. so i settled for "Night at the Museum : Secret of the Tomb". LAME-ASS MOVIE :((

... and yet, i was strangely satisfied. maybe it was because i was productive that day. maybe it was because i had watched a slightly entertaining, incredibly annoying movie. maybe it was because i ate barbequed chicken that i had most days that i was out of town, if only because of the lack of proper, hygienic-looking eateries along the roads i take.

i suspect it was because mostly dictated everything that i did that day without too much external factors. i was my own man, on my own, on my birthday, for the first time in forever, and it felt good. :D
