Mamma keeps crying.
I don’t know why. Tom from across the road says that she should be happy; we beat the baddies down so we’re the best. He said the Prime Ribster, the guy with the cigar, says we won. And winning means that everybody is free and they’ll bring back sweeties. I can’t even remember what they taste like except I know how good they are.
I told Poppy about it. She can’t wait either. Maybe I can get a friend for Poppy now that we’re the winners. Were we the losers before? Doesn’t matter; we’re the best now.
So why is Mamma crying?
Mamma still keeps crying.
I gave her Poppy to hug ‘cause that makes me feel better when things hurt but she just cried harder. Maybe she’s sad that she doesn’t have a job anymore. Tom from across the road says that the women can go back to women’s work now that the men are coming back. Poor Mamma with no job. But at least Pappa will come back with the men.
Shouldn’t she be happy?
There are lots of people crying with Mamma today.
Granny and Granda and Auntie Sue. And Lindsey and Uncle Joe. Uncle Joe got back yesterday because he is a man and the men are coming back. When is Pappa coming back?
