I am really looking forward to Readercon-as I do every year since there are so many informative discussions, interesting people, great readings, and books to buy. Many graduates of the Odyssey writing workshop will be there for me to chat with, including one of my classmates, snurri. His book, Superpowers, just came out. Yay! I never was into comic books, but I do love comic book heroes. What I especially enjoyed was the characterization in this one: how, with these new powers come new problems. Then, how to solve those problems, if they can be solved.
What is also exciting is that Readercon is hosting the inaugural ceremony for the Shirley Jackson Awards. The ceremony is being hosted by Guest of Honor, Jonathon Lethem. He has a great piece about Jackson at salon.com. It couldn’t be more appropriate that he is involved for this first year. The ceremony is currently scheduled for Sunday morning, July 20th.
