First, follow my link, see my journal, and know that I'm not 'okay' with anything - ever.
Second, the harsh reality is, despite my liberalism, I have to acknowledge the truth that such devices would be progressive in the long run (in the short run, there will be a lot of debate over when such weapons must be used - and the needed restrictions on that kind of use of force [much like the issue of taser guns today]).
They should be tested from every angle and from every use possible so we can know if they are safe. If there is talk of testing in uncontrolled situations such as riots -- then the army probably has progressed beyond their own testing in controlled situation. I'm speculating, of course, but the clues hint that the armed forces have already done live testing on people -- so testing on American civilian crowds might not be as radical a step as it sounds.
Personally, I was in the three day riots in Cincinnati in 2002. No fun. But that city DESERVED to have their population go ape-shit on it. If the police had been able to shut down that riot with such weapons - the city would never have made any effort to address the problems that caused the riots in the first place.
Still - if we are talking use in combat -- I like the idea of sonic weapons better than the arsenal we use now.
