AHAHAHAHAAOMG! THIS MOCKING-SUPERIOR ATTITUDE OUT OF LOVE IS ONE CHARACTERISTIC I ADORE TO RUKI'S PERSONALITY! This is in essence his defense mechanism and I TOTALLY LOVE IT! He cannot take in a compliment, he cannot take in any form of affection, because he's afraid of getting himself hurt, so the most logical solution to stay out of this is always replying back in a taunting way. He's actually the only one from Gazette who has this kind of reaction imprinted in himself, becoming what defines him. A short person has to compensate somehow in the lack of gaining a chair of power in any different way.

Reita was about to say something, pushing himself up into a sitting position, but Ruki shook his head. He knew Reita wasn't reading the interview for the first time, he had probably been studying it for the past few days. Reita knew what a confession meant to him. Hell, he was the one Ruki confessed to, years ago. He had seen him, standing there, shaking, how hard it had been to voice those words, hurtfully stuck in his throat. It was all about trust, something so rare.
