taehyung crash landed his way into hoseok’s heart. literally.
break time isn’t something that hoseok considers a luxury. a 5 minute stop from work for water and a few pats of towel on his damp forehead isn’t much of a help to rest his sore muscles. but that was before he was cast by bighit.
ever since he got that “you can start training by next week” call from the company a week after his audition, hoseok doesn’t just consider break time a luxury but a rare diamond within his reach but he somehow can’t grasp.
it was after 3 hours of dance practice and an extra half hour of warm up exercise, the instructor receives an urgent call for a meeting and dismissed the group of exhausted teenagers until he comes back. hoseok plops down the hard floor with a loud groan, his wet tank top sticking on his back like a second skin.
hoseok closes his eyes to block the blinding fluorescent light, he reaches for his bag on his side and unzips it without moving an inch; his fingers finding his earbuds because even after a year of training he isn’t really fond of the obnoxious sounds the younger trainees make while they’re supposed to be resting. and because of his position, each step the running teens are making sends a vibration on the floor and results to loud thudding sounds in his ears.
he tries to twist his body to the direction of his bag, not wanting to get cramped muscles just for getting a pair of earbuds. but before he can even raise his back an inch from the floor, he heard a loud scream, an equally loud gasp and felt a large warm body drop on his chest- so hard that the wind was knocked out of his lungs.
"what the hell." hoseok wheezes. the words turning to incoherent noises because of the heavy weight still resting on top of him. the entire room went silent. hoseok isn’t one of the really respected trainees which was rumoured to debut in a year, but he is one of the first trainees of their batch and with his dancing and rapping skill, he’s pretty much considered a senior that you can’t touch unless you’re in his circle of friends.
the body on top of him moves with a grunt, strands of black hair tickling hoseok’s neck. he raises his arm, the one not being tackled by the hips of the lying boy, and pokes the other’s head. “hey, you alive?”
the boy grunts again, twisting his body to face up and rolling onto hoseok’s stomach. the boy’s face is twisted in a painful expression and hoseok laughs, because if anyone should be hurt it was supposed to be him. “you okay?” he tries again.
the boy squeaks out a soft “yeah.” and hoseok laughs again. it seems the boy has recognized his laugh because the boy’s eyes widen in surprise and he stands up quickly and bows at hoseok, “i’m sorry hyung- i mean sunbae.”
hoseok smiles at him and raises both his arm, “it’s fine, i’m okay. help me up?” the boy nods eagerly and grabs hoseok’s hands. after stretching his arms and rubbing his chest, hoseok reaches for the boy’s head and ruffles his hair. “call me hyung,” he says and the boy’s eyes widen again. “and next time, don’t run around and crash landing on someone else’s chest.”
the boy laughs and hoseok notes that the red flush on the boy’s cheeks really compliments the stupidly adorable wide smile plastered on his small face.
the instructor came back a minute after the commotion inside the room started back again.
it was about 3 days since hoseok was nearly choked to death by a younger trainee’s body, did he receive a formal apology from the boy, taehyung. hoseok learned his name from one of his friends, which was surprisingly friends with the other teen running around with taehyung.
"hyung." taehyung approaches him after dance practice, his hair still messy and wet from shower. hoseok grabs his bag from the floor and hungs it on his shoulder. "hobi hyung." taehyung whines. hoseok smiles at the nickname the boy gave him the same day he crashed on hoseok’s body.
"yeah, taehyung?" he faces the shorter teen with a smile, and a flush appears on taehyung’s cheeks again.
taehyung is playing with the zipper of his jacket, not meeting with hoseok’s eyes. “i just wanted to say i’m sorry that i fell for you, and-” hoseok laughs, taehyung’s head snaps up to face him, his eyes confused.
"you fell for me?" hoseok repeats and the flush on taehyung’s cheeks deepens. he raises both hands and gestures a disapproval, "no. no. i meant on. im sorry that i fell ON you." taehyung says again, and hoseok smiles, asking him to continue.
taehyung’s eyes drop to the floor again, seemingly fascinated with the pattern on the wood and hoseok wonders if taehyung sees something on the floor that he can’t. “and i wanted to ask you out for coffee,” taehyung looks up at him waiting for a reaction, when hoseok didn’t react, he adds a soft “if only you’re free.” quickly.
"sure. when?" hoseok answers after seeing taehyung’s shaking fingers still playing with his jacket’s zipper. he sees the boy’s eyes lit up and taehyung suddenly shoots him with carefully planned details and hoseok wonders again if taehyung was lying when he said that his first statement was wrong.
"but just for apology?" hoseok asks after taehyung’s long explanation of things hoseok didn’t quite understand. he sees uncertainty flash on taehyung’s eyes but they were gone before he can comment on it. "yes, just for apology." and taehyung smiles that same wide smile.
they meet at a small cafe on a corner near bighit, it was miraculously a free day for them. hoseok wears his favorite black snapback and his gray hoodie. he sits in a corner table visible to everyone that’s entering the cafe.
he waits for another 5 minutes before he hears a series of laughter coming out of the staff room and he sees an extremely bubbly taehyung getting out of the private area.
taehyung spots him and stops, “you’re here early,” hoseok smiles at him and gives a pointed look towards his wristwatch. taehyung gets the message and raises his watch at eye level and his smile drops, “oh. i’m late.”
hoseok nods and gestures at the seat in front of him, taehyung walks over embarrassingly slow. but when hoseok calls for the waiter the talkative side of him resurfaces, “don’t order. you don’t have to. i’m friends with the owner and his crew are preparing their best-selling coffees for us.”
a small smile replaces the shocked expression on hoseok’s face. he wanted to ask taehyung something but the boy is literally doing everything he can to avoid hoseok’s stares.
"taehyung," he tries; the 5th time in under 3 minutes. the boy seems like he wants to listen and is curious as to what hoseok would say but he continues blabbering about the stray kittens he played with before he got there.
hoseok isn’t really stupid and dense like how taehyung thinks he is. and taehyung isn’t really that hard to read, he was so transparent no matter how hard he tries to appear difficult. the deep red on his cheeks and the stutter he makes after hoseok shoots him a smile are enough to confirm that he was indeed lying when he said it was “when he fell ON hoseok.” and not “when he fell FOR hoseok.”
the coffee arrives 30 minutes later. hoseok had given up on interfering in taehyung’s conversation with himself. hoseok tried listening for 5 minutes and he realized that taehyung was literally just repeating the same story over and over again but rephrasing a few sentences so it wouldn’t be too obvious.
taehyung smiles at the waiter that slides the two cups on their table, hoseok orders a few pastries and chats with him for a while. it was about a half minute later that hoseok realizes taehyung was not talking. he looks over and sees taehyung fanning his tongue that was hanging off his mouth.
hoseok laughs at taehyung’s scrunched up face. “what happened?”
taehyung looks down at the coffee and grimaces, “hot.” is the only word he says. hoseok clamps a hand on his mouth to avoid laughing too loud, “you should’ve waited a bit or at least blew on it before gulping it down.”
taehyung only pouts and hoseok swears he tried to keep his hand to himself but before he knew it he was already pinching taehyung’s cheek. “so cute.”
he stands up, his fingers still clutching taehyung’s cheek. “i’ll get you some water, don’t gulp down your coffee.” he scolds taehyung while moving his hand from left to right. taehyung nods and removes hoseok’s fingers on his face.
hoseok comes back to the image of taehyung giggling by himself and bread crumbs sticking on the corner of his lips. hoseok wipes on it, enjoying the shocked expression on taehyung’s face. hoseok places the glass of cold water in front of taehyung and sits down. taehyung gladly drinks up the water after pushing the plate of cookies to hoseok, “try it try it try it.”
they stay for another two hours, ordering a bunch of coffees; hot and cold alike. taehyung’s friend visits their table often and even announces that they order anything because this is the first time taehyung brought someone so it was going to be his treat.
"are you the hobi hyung? hobi right?" hoseok nods at taehyung’s friend, "taehyung mentions you a lot in kkt- no not just in kakao. even in-" taehyung stands up and pushes his friend away muttering something about attending to the customers. the guy could only salute a goodbye at hoseok before taehyung pushes him inside the staff room.
hoseok laughs because his speculations were confirmed, and he laughs again because taehyung sits down with his face as red as the red velvet cupcake he ate minutes ago and is spouting nonsense explanation that he ends with a “don’t listen to him, he does that to everyone” and an awkward laugh.
hoseok looks at his watch and realizes that he was already late for the dinner date he and his elder sister planned a week ago. “i need to go.”
taehyung looks up, cheeks still flushed but his poker face was washed away with a pout. “oh, okay.”
"i need to meet with my sister a few blocks from here," he explains and taehyung only nods, his fingers poking to cookies laying untouched on the plate infront of him. "do you wanna join?"
taehyung’s head snaps up at the question, his hands instantly shaking before hoseok’s face. “no, no. it’s a family thing, i’m not supposed to.” hoseok smiles at the flush still on the younger’s face.
hoseok stand up and wounds his fingers on taehyung’s wrist. “come on,” he tugs him upward and sling his arm on taehyung’s shoulder. “she wouldn’t mind. i’ll introduce you to her.” hoseok winks at him.
taehyung smiles back, the flush on his cheek darker than ever. and hoseok notes again how much he likes the way taehyung scoots closer to his body while they’re walking and how nice the younger’s hand feels wrapped around his nervously when his sister greets him. but nothing can compare to the blush that creeps up taehyung’s face and the loud gasp followed by a sweet smile and a small nod after hoseok’s sister asks him, “are you taehyung? that taehyungie kid from bighit? hoseok likes talking about you.”
