:( Breed Specific LegislationBreed-specific legislation (BSL) is spreading like a cancer from one community to the next. there are so many breed specific legislations its even been hard for me to keep track on which is which. Some areas require that the petowner of a specific breed to show proof of insurance and the breed needs to be registered with the council/community. In others the breed is just banned outright. I am not sure if some have grandfathers clauses in place or not.
What is really boils down to is irresponsible pet ownership and the few ruining it for the many. Which really sucks. There are laws already in place for dogs that are deemed dangerous that does not apply to specific breeds yet I dont see them being enforced in a manner that would make any community safe.
I just have alot of mixed feelings on the issue.
Mostly because I see alot of irresponsible pet ownership not only in dog breeds but in other animals too where they become a menace.
Wisconsin is living proof of that with the amt of feral cats they now have and the fact that they are trying to make it legal for landowners to shoot any cats they see because they are ruining the ecosystem because they have become so prolific in breeding.
There are other municipalities that have banned pot bellied pigs and goats because they claim they are farm animals. Yet pigs themselves have been shown to have as much if not more intellegence than dogs. shrugs.
I did voulunteer work for the humane society and they had so many dogs and cats they were euphanated on a daily basis. They had to have been someones pet at some time or another. Not really sure why they went unclaimed.
